For eleven years now, a craft market has been held on the heights of Paris, overlooking Belleville park, on weekends and public holidays from May to the end of September. For the Paris Olympic Games, it will exceptionally be held every day. Why not take a trip there ?

Posters taped to the pillars of the Willy Ronis belvedere, flyers distributed in local hotels, an Instagram account just launched (@francefabriqueasso) … Working together as an association for the past four years, the craftsman of the Belleville belvedere are mobilizing to raise awareness of their market. And there are plenty of assets to highlight : their made-in-France creations, the great diversity of their offerings (textiles, ceramics, jewelry, candles…), their circular economy production methods (recycled jewelry, upcycled clothing)… and also the incredible panoramic view of Paris.

“The goal of the market, and of the association that grew out of it, is to promote and enhance the value of French production to the general public, while supporting craftsman”, explain Agnès and Priscille, active members of the collective. They hope that some of the tourists coming to Paris for the Olympic Games will come across the market, which will be held exceptionally every day from July 27 to August 11. From there, they’ll be able to take home souvenirs more original and singular than miniature Eiffel Towers. “The rest of the year, we already have Americans, Germans, Dutch as customers, staying in Airbnb nearby,” they tell us.

With its background music, sunken park and nearby cafés, it’s also a relaxed atmosphere, away from the main tourist and traffic routes, that the association seeks to promote. “The belvedere is a real meeting place. The events and concerts organized in the amphitheater every weekend bring together all kinds of people. Tourists, Parisians, commuters of all ages – you never know what the belvedere will look like from one weekend to the next,” enthuse Agnès and Priscille.

They’ll have to find a balance between attracting the few tourists “lost” in the 20th arrondissement, and preserving the area’s authentic atmosphere. >> 27, rue Piat (subway Pyrénées, line 11).

Next market dates (11am-6.30pm) :

Everyday from Saturday July 27 to Sunday August 11, Saturday August 24 and Sunday August 25, Saturday August 31 and Sunday September 1, Saturday September 7 and Sunday September 8, Saturday September 14 and Sunday September 15, Saturday September 21 and Sunday September 22, Saturday September 28 and Sunday September 29.
